FDA Advisory: Two Lots of Darwin's Raw Chicken Cat Food (Salmonella)

November 1, 2026Marin Raw

Date announced: October 26, 2026
Type: FDA advisory (do not feed)
Pets affected: Cats
Reason: Salmonella

What happened

The FDA tested samples after a consumer reported that two cats developed gastrointestinal illness after eating Darwin's Natural Selections Chicken Recipe for Cats. Two lots tested positive for Salmonella. One cat was hospitalized; both cats recovered after they stopped eating the food. The FDA recommended that the manufacturer, Arrow Reliance, Inc. (doing business as Darwin's Natural Pet Products), recall both lots.

Affected products

  • Darwin's Natural Pet Products Natural Selections Chicken Recipe for Cats, Lot 12731, manufactured July 8, 2026
  • Darwin's Natural Pet Products Natural Selections Chicken Recipe for Cats, Lot 12493, manufactured April 2, 2026

The food was sold frozen in 2-lb packages through an online subscription service, so it may still be in home freezers. Freezing does not kill Salmonella.

What to do

  • Check your freezer for these lot numbers. If you have them, do not feed the food.
  • Throw it away in a secure container so other animals can't get to it.
  • Clean and disinfect bowls, utensils, storage containers, and any surfaces the food touched, and wash your hands.
  • If your cat shows signs of illness (lethargy, vomiting, diarrhea, fever), contact your veterinarian.
