What happened

American Regent Animal Health is recalling two lots of Adequan Canine Injection, a prescription medication used for arthritis and joint problems in dogs, after glass fibers were found during testing of retained samples. Injecting a product with particles like this may cause irritation, swelling, pain, infection, or abscesses at the injection site. The company reported no adverse events at the time of the recall. Two lots of Adequan i.m. for horses are also included.

Affected product

  • Adequan Canine Injection, 100 mg/mL, 5 mL multi-dose vial, Lots 3369 and 25011

What to do

  • Adequan is usually given at the vet or under a vet's direction. If your dog gets Adequan injections, ask your veterinarian whether any doses came from these lots.
  • Watch the injection site for swelling, heat, or pain, and call your vet with any concerns.
  • Don't stop your dog's joint treatment without talking to your vet.
