Date announced: June 25, 2026 (expands an April 17, 2026 recall)
Type: Voluntary recall
Pets affected: Puppies and other young animals fed milk replacer
Reason: Vitamin D levels too low or too high
What happened
Revival Animal Health of Orange City, Iowa, is recalling Breeder's Edge and Shelter's Choice canine milk replacers, and expanded the recall to its Breeder's Edge goat milk (GM) products, because Vitamin D levels vary. Too much Vitamin D can cause vomiting, weakness, and kidney problems; too little over several weeks can cause weak bones, swollen joints, and lameness. Two complaints of rickets have been reported.
Affected products
- Breeder's Edge Foster Care Canine Milk Replacer (several sizes)
- Shelter's Choice Canine Milk Replacer (1 lb, 3.5 lb, 8 lb)
- Breeder's Edge Foster Care GM (goat milk) Milk Replacer (1 lb, 5 lb)
Many best-by dates are included. Check the full list in the FDA notice below.
What to do
- Stop using the affected product and switch to a different milk replacer.
- Talk to your veterinarian if your puppy has been fed this product, especially if you notice weakness, lameness, or poor growth.
